The Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee

The Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee consists of members of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, Elders, former research participants, members of the Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council (TLALC) and Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Service (TAMS).

The committee aims to provide advice on all aspects of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study including:

  • To assist the study with decisions regarding intellectual property.

  • To guide the study with direction and purpose that benefit the study’s aims and the local Aboriginal Community.

  • Provide input into new research initiatives and programs.

  • Provide knowledge, opinions and feedback to the research team on issues that affect the study and the local Aboriginal Community.

  • All cultural principles, publications and intellectual property. 

  • Development of research and health promotion activities.

  • Provide advice on the benefit, feasibility and acceptability of these activities to their communities.

  • Provide insight into community and partnership matters that impact on the delivery of the program.

  • Facilitate a positive relationship between study and staff and Aboriginal communities and organisations.

Committee meetings happen every three months and are open to anyone in the community to come along and give their opinion.
