The Breastfeeding Study

In the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Breastfeeding Study we are recruiting mums who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and have given birth in the last five years. Mums can participate by completing an online survey and/or by participating in a one-on-one research yarn about their breastfeeding experiences with our First Nations research assistant!

What are we doing?

Breastfeeding has the greatest potential to improve child survival, health, development, and wellbeing. This study aims to better understand the level and types of breastfeeding support that Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women receive, what helps women to breastfeed and what some of the barriers are that stop women from starting or continuing breastfeeding.

This information will help to develop a culturally safe breastfeeding support program for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander women living in the Tamworth region (Gomeroi/Kamilaroi lands).

Why is this important?
