“Sacred Mother”

A picture of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study artwork by Georgina Altona

Georgina Altona was a direct descendant of the Mooki River People of Walhallow.

Georgina had a lot of involvement in health awareness and its importance. Her artistic work and designs have reached many communities Australia wide. Georgina considered it to be both a gift and a passion to express health through art.

‘Sacred Mother’ is the title of her artwork for the Gomeroi Gaaynggal project. It expresses the sacredness of woman and the gift of child. Being a mother herself, Georgina found it easy to design and to show the true spirit of her ancestral heritage as an Aboriginal woman.

Sadly, Georgina passed away in late 2008. However, her legacy still remains in her artwork and her dedication and commitment to the wellbeing of the Aboriginal community.

Georgina’s message for us is that "We are all Sacred Mothers".
