Approval Process for Presenting Research Findings

If you are currently working with the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study and want to present your research findings at any conference, symposia or forum, you must request approval from the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee.

This is to ensure that appropriate community consultation is performed before research findings are presented, to make sure they are presented and interpreted in alignment with the values and interests of the Gomeroi community in Tamworth.

  • The lead investigator will provide a letter detailing the nature of the presentation and a final copy of their presentation to the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study for inclusion in the next Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee meeting.

    Letters should include:

    • The name and location of the conference, symposia, or forum.

    • Whether you would be giving an oral or poster presentation.

    • A brief description of what you would be presenting.

    • An invitation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members of the research team or Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee to present the data and/or attend the meeting.

    Importantly:

    • All presentations should use strength-based language.

    • All Indigenous members of the research team, Advisory Committee, members of the Aboriginal Australian community who are consulted during the research and Aboriginal Australian research participants must be acknowledged for their contribution and/or given the opportunity to present the research findings and/or attend the meeting.

The applicant will be given the opportunity to present and explain their application at the next Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee meeting either in person or via Zoom link. Committee meetings occur every 3 months, so please allow up to 3 months for committee approval.

Note: The Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study understands that there may be some opportunities to present research findings that require expedited approval. If this is the case, please contact the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Study Director.

Please send your application letter and copy of your presentation to ggstudy@newcastle.edu.au

  • The Gomeroi Gaaynggal Director will inform the lead investigator of the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee decision via return email.

Only once approval from the Gomeroi Gaaynggal Advisory Committee is given may the applicant give the presentation.
